growth consultingA client and friend of mine recently introduced me to his team of employees as his “Growth Consultant and Partner” – he coined the term growth consultant just a few weeks before in one of our weekly calls. It stuck. And, he’s right. As I thought about it, I am a Growth Consultant – whatever you want to grow – sales, market share, profit, culture, people – you name it, I have the experience and knowhow to accomplish the task. Using my knowledge and experience of being an entrepreneur and business owner for over twenty years, my figurative tool box is full. Most of the time, as I listen to my clients talk about their business opportunities and challenges, I’ve been there. Trust me. I’ve failed. I’ve succeeded. And told the story. In my opinion, consulting is about building relationships with the company, its owners, and most importantly – its team. Then – earning the right to be heard – and sharing and coaching them to a different level of excellence that they thought was possible. kolbeOver the last twenty four years of being a business owner, I have always been proud of my staff’s skills and the evident passion it showed for the company and its customers. But I was struggling with how to implement their skills properly to rise to the level of success I knew they could achieve. I felt the team was misaligned with respect to job responsibilities, resulting in forced and unreal expectations on each teammate. Among mounting frustration I was introduced to Kolbe as a way to harness employees’ natural instincts for better job performance and satisfaction. The discovery led the management team of my firm to begin a process of identifying each team member’s natural instincts so that it could rework the company’s organizational chart with the goal of giving each team member the freedom to act naturally in his/her position day in and day out. crisis managementCrisis Management. This is one of those things that on one hand, I’m proud of, yet it’s a hard topic to write about. For whatever reason, whether it be with my family, business, friends, non-profit or otherwise, it seems as though I’ve been in the right place at the right time when tough things happen. Most adversity, especially in the world of business and non-profit, is third-party induced, and oftentimes, you have NO idea what to do to calm the seas, firm up the foundation, solve the problem, communicate to the naysayers and criticism (and even the press in some situations) and begin a plan for reconciliation and a return to healthy times.
