Archuleta v. Cook

Well, I’m sitting at a friend of mines house, helping him out since he had a work emergency… AI ended a few hours ago – I only got a “handful” of texts, emails and calls. (I’m joking, I got more than I ever expected…)  I called my buddy Steve on my way over here, and he immediately dumped me into voice mail – I wasn’t going to tell him who won (he watches AI on tape delay because of night commitments) – here is his text message…

I found it funny.

Anyway, if you linger here, you know I’ve become a fan of American Idol in the last few months, because of a song that David Archuleta sang – Imagine. He bookended the competition by singing it as his final song last night. It was, once again, more than awesome.

So, here are my thoughts – I’m excited by the results. I know many will be surprised by this, but truly it’s great. Cook is a KC guy, so I’m proud of that, for sure. This is just what our city needs… Even though some idiot newsguy tonight said, “Kansas City hasn’t had a champion like this since George Brett led the ’85 Royals to win the World Series” – I’ll be interested to hear what GB has to say about that in the morning if I make it to coffee.

Cook deserves this. KC deserves this. Even Archuleta deserves this. Let’s be honest – DA is pretty awesome. He’s gonna get a record contract regardless. I heard that Sony/BMG was going to offer one to both of them, no matter who won. Simon said it best when he “apologized” to DC, when he said that for the first time ever, he doesn’t care who wins, because they both are great. He’s right. My guess, and I might eat my words, is that both will go on to be successful. Sweet. I’m happy.

So, one friend from the East Coast emailed me and asked if I would watch future Idols… Not sure. We’ll have to wait and see. Honestly, not planning on it right now, but you never know.

It’s been fun – I’ve found myself to enjoy the constant critics every week, following the story, talking about it with the girls at the office, and generally being committed to a TV show other than Curb your Enthusiasm, Weeds or Dexter.

Oh, and I did vote 5 times last night via text…

Cheers, now on to blogging about the First Place Chicago Cubs and Songs that Mean Something.

Cupp out.
