Another AI Humility Lesson

So, Jason Castro chokes tonight in major form on American Idol… It was actually very painful to watch. Here are some links if you want to watch this poor guy get voted off before he gets voted off (now, of course, he might not get voted off, but after tonight, I can’t imagine why). Oh, the links: Here and Here. Now, I was never a Castro fan, but he is a Believer, and leads worship at his Dallas Church (which, ironically I’ve been to before), Lakepoint Church.

According to idolblog, here is what the judges said about Castro’s performance:

I Shot the Sheriff

Randy: “Man, dude. OK, look for me that was a really karaoke Bob Marley. There was nothing special about it. It’s not about just having fun. I didn’t get it.”
Paula: “I never saw you perform this much to the audience. I wasn’t crazy about the song or performance but your true artistry shines through.”
Simon: “Stand back… That was utterly atrocious. This was like honestly a first round audition massacre. I don’t know what you’re thinking.”

Mr. Tambourine Man

Randy: “You’re not in the zone tonight”
Paula: “It is what it is. Obviously it didn’t blow us away but you blow me away.”
Simon: “Jason, I’d pack your suitcase.”

All that to say, it really was bad.
To the lesson in humility.

My man David Archuleta. He sang a song from my childhood – Stand by Me. I told my buddy Ty tonight that song has always meant something to me – maybe it is because we sang it at Young Life club in high school, or maybe it was the lyrics, or heck, even the movie. That song to me screams, “coming of age” – well, guess what? Archuleta rocked it out. In more ways than one.

Simon says to him after his more than awesome performance, “You could have whistled a song and it would have sounded better than the last song…” (Simon was referring to Jason Castro’s I Shot the Sheriff.

Under his breath, he says, “I liked Jason’s song”

Humble to say the least.
