For years, information technology blogs, magazines and pundits have been saying how simplified IT is coming. Has it? That’s the question I aim to answer in this 4 part series.
Part 3 – The Tools: Management
While we have discussed online services and tools to enhance your productivity and empower you as a user, we have glanced over one important aspect of IT simplification: asset management. If you are a small business and have more than 1 employee, you can benefit from asset management. Let’s take our apartment metaphor as an example again. In this metaphor we are the supers of the apartment complex and we are supposed to take care of things. Well, what if something breaks? We get a call from our tenant or if we’ve implemented the right systems we automatically find out about the issue. The key is, we don’t’ want to deal with it.
Let’s think of the tenants as your employees. You’re the super, and when it comes to IT you just want things to go smoothly. You don’t want to have lots of phone calls, emails and trouble tickets out there you just want simplicity. What if the problems could fix themselves? What if you employees computers always had up to date virus info, if they told you what software they had installed and where they last were? What if you had the ability to restrict your employees from doing things they shouldn’t? All these questions get answered with a sister offering of Office 365 called Windows InTune.
Windows InTune allows you as the super to be assured that the investments (computers) you make for your tenants (employees) are functioning properly, have the right security software and are in good condition for the employees to perform their job. Windows InTune also gives the ability that if there IS an issue and your employee needs assistance, a certified IT professional (from Microsoft) can help your user out, free of charge! Windows InTune is a monthly charge for each computer but is well worth the cost in the long run as it provides reliable IT management, automatically!
Tomorrow, Matt will conclude the series. Matt, thanks for all of your insight!
